3 Reasons to Join RSC

(In the days leading up to our evaluation sessions for the 2015-2016 season, we will be writing three posts about why a youth soccer player in southern Maine should join the Rosevelt Soccer Club.

For more information about our 2015-2016 player evaluations, see here.)

1. We offer our players opportunities to play against quality teams and players.

If you're reading this post any time Wednesday (6/24), our U18 team's players, coaches, and families are probably still on the road traveling to Barboursville, West Virginia to participate in the 2015 U.S. Youth Soccer Region 1 Championships. On our schedule are the #14 and #15 teams in the U.S.

Despite our lower registration costs and smaller footprint, our club still offers our players great opportunities to play against top-level talent. Not only is our U18 team representing Maine in the competition against some of the best teams and players on the east coast, but our two other teams this year came pretty close to qualifying for regionals themselves. Our U13 team narrowly lost a best-of-three series in their age group final, and our U16 team fell short qualifying for their age group's final on a goal-differential tie-breaker.

To be sure, our U18 team's expectations are tempered heading into this upcoming tournament. But we will undoubtedly return better players, better coaches, and a better club. And those are the reasons for our existence in the first place.

Oh, and if you want to track our U18 team's experience in West Virginia, follow our Twitter account: https://twitter.com/RoseveltSC. We'll be posting frequent updates of our players' on-field and off-field experiences using the hashtag #RosieWV.

Game Recap: RSC 18s Tie Shorthanded Seacoast United

The Rosevelt Soccer Club U18s tied an under-manned Seacoast United 2-2 in a 60-minute game Sunday in the team's final game at the Summer Coastal Challenge.

Playing with a two-man advantage, Rosevelt SC scored in the twelfth minute when Noor Abdulabas ('17) scored on a pass from Shammah Gahomera ('17). Seacoast answered back eight minutes later. Gahomera converted a Sajjad Abdulabas ('17) pass to put RSC up 2-1 in the 36th minute, but Seacoast scored a game-tying penalty kick with six minutes remaining in the game.

2. Our program costs only $855, and we offer convenient training and playing locations.

Opportunities for our players to develop their soccer talents shouldn't have to cost thousands of dollars, and families shouldn't have to travel beyond Maine's borders to play most of its games.

That's why our club has a $750 registration fee, with new players purchasing two of our Under Armour uniforms for $105. And that's why we play most of our games within Maine, and have located all of our training sessions in the Greater Portland area. We offer quality programming, while keeping our members' wallets thicker and their odometers lower.

3. We provide great opportunities for individual and team development.

Each of our qualified head coaches and assistant coaches are responsible for coaching only one team, and our team rosters are capped at 18 players to ensure each of our players is ensured individualized attention from our coaches and ample playing opportunities in our training sessions and games.

Our 2014-2015 U18 Boys team also piloted the creation of individual player pages that will help our players track their personal progress in skill assessments and fitness assessments. And our U18 Boys team also used software to track individual playing time and statistics, as well as a wide range of team statistics.
