Club Principles Check-In: U12G Winter Baseline

Below is a club principles check-in for the U12G from their game against Windham in a 7 v. 7, 50-minute game at the Gorham Sports Center Saturday afternoon:

Principle #2: We will positively represent the Rosevelt Soccer Club on the field.

We will positively represent the Rosevelt Soccer Club on the soccer field by demonstrating respect for game officials, our opponents, our opponents' supporters, and other members of the general public.

We will avoid earning a caution or ejection from a game for unsportsmanlike and/or disrespectful behavior.

Ejections

Principle #4: We will use fewer than three touches.

We will take as few touches as possible before passing to a teammate or taking a shot on goal, because we recognize our team's speed of play quickens when we take fewer individual touches. To help us use fewer than three touches before making a quick pass to a teammate, escaping from pressure, or breaking into open space, we will use a clean, controlled first touch to square our shoulders to the goal our team is attacking.

We will complete at least 315 passes per 90 minutes by U18 and at least 245 passes per 90 minutes by U13.

Pass Strings of 3 or Greater/90'

Principle #5: We will play out of the back.

“There is only one ball,” Johan Cruyff observed, “so you need to have it.” It’s a simple concept to understand, but a difficult concept to put into practice. Our club’s teams will nevertheless attempt to put that concept into practice by emphasizing a style of play that includes playing out of the back. Instead of relying on low-percentage passes that require lower skill and awareness, we will focus on completing high-percentage passes that require greater skill and awareness.

We will complete at least 60% of our attempted passes by U18 and at least 50% of our attempted passes each game by U13.

Pass Completion %
ROSE- 34%

Principle #6: We will utilize attacking patterns.

To help our club’s players play mindful, intentional soccer, we will utilize attacking patterns to help our teams build from the back to create scoring opportunities in the final third through a deliberate and skillful style of play.

We will create at least 5 shots on goal within the penalty area per 90 minutes.

Shots on Goal/90'
ROSE- 6 (0 inside penalty area)

Goals
ROSE- 2 (0 inside penalty area)

Principle #7: We will apply smart team pressure to our opponents when they possess the ball.

When soccer players possess the ball, they are generally less successful and less threatening when smart team pressure is applied to them.

We will prevent our opponent from completing at least 50% of their attempted passes.

Pass Completion %
OPP-30%

Principle #8: We will limit our opponents' free kicks and set pieces in our defensive half of the field.

To reduce our opponents’ scoring opportunities on set pieces in the final third, our players will be mindful about conceding corner kicks and throw-ins in our defensive third and committing fouls in our defensive half of the field.

We will concede no more than 10 corner kicks and free kicks inside our defensive half of the field per 90 minutes.

Fouls/90'
ROSE- 2 (2 inside defensive half)

Corner Kicks/90'
OPP- 11

Principle #9: We will prevent our opponents from creating high-percentage scoring chances.

Echoing common sense, there is plenty of data that shows teams earn a greater chance of scoring goals inside the penalty area than outside the penalty area. As a result, our teams will try to reduce the number of goals conceded by preventing our opponents’ service and finishing inside our penalty area.

We will prevent our opponent from creating no more than 5 shots on goal within the penalty area per 90 minutes.

Shots on Goal/90'
OPP- 12 (0 inside penalty area)

OPP- 3 (0 inside penalty area)
